This week on the Digital Owl's Prose developer blog, I published another beginner-friendly MySQL article.
This post covers an example of the differences in columns specified in the WHERE
clause but not the SELECT
clause and vice-versa.
Read, MySQL SELECT and WHERE Clause Column Existence, to learn more.

I published the very first (of hopefully many) OpenLampTech Developer interviews earlier this week with Ben Brumm. If you haven't read it yet, you should definitely check it out (and subscribe so you get future interviews delivered to your inbox 🙂).
The OpenLampTech publication is bringing more content to readers. The first-ever OpenLampTech WordPress Wednesday has been published as an article on the OpenLampTech publication page. If you would like this type of content delivered to your inbox, please reply and let me know. Thank you.

I have curated some fantastic reads for you this week. Let’s get to them!
10 tutorials to sharpen your command-line skills
By: Jose Vicente Nunez (Sudoer)
#linux
This article has links to several more articles about building your command-line skills. I've not personally done all of these exercises myself.
However, I can imagine working through them would definitely up your Linux command-line skills.
I'm particularly interested in the 'Manage Text' section of articles.
Why WordPress in 2022: Full Site Editing vs. Dynamic Templating
By: Kathy Zant
#wordpress
I suppose I'm of the 'Dynamic Templating' ilk (although not in the WordPress sense). But, I'm well aware that Full Site Editing (FSE) is the direction WordPress is heading and I'm admittedly interested in learning it.
The author shares the opinion that content should be separated from design.
35 Laravel Eloquent Recipes
By: Martin Joo
#php #laravel
Here is an article for Laravel devs covering some of the gems (as the author terms it) for the Eloquent ORM.
These in particular interested me because I understand the underlying concepts in MySQL, as I'm not (yet) a Laravel developer.
Invisible database columns

CakePHP 4 Query Builder CRUD Functions Tutorial
By: Sanjay Kumar
#php #cakephp
CRUD operations are foundational in any web development project and I appreciate how frameworks help with them by providing models and/or Query Builder classes.
This is a great article on basic scaffolding and CRUD operations in CakePHP using built-in functionality.
Crocoblock Review — is CrocoBlock Worth It?
By: Lano Miro
#wordpress
I've not personally used Crocoblock any but it sure looks like they have a lot of features to offer in their suite of plugins.
In this article, there is a section dedicated to each of the major plugins with what you can do and what is included when you use it.
Is SQL Programming
By: maclochlainn
#mysql
There is so much win in this article. I'm not on any one side of the whole "Is SQL a programming language?" debate (inadvertently to the authors' scrutiny of fence-sitters).
True, I am fond of SQL.
I write a lot of SQL and I write a lot about SQL. But, PHP is in my heart, and there is room for both.
Very interesting read.
Exploring the 7 PHP Frameworks using Symfony Components
By: Reuben Walker
#php #symfony
Symfony is everywhere and used in multiple popular frameworks as covered in this great article.
Plenty of linking resources and information along with comparisons for differences and clarity.
Developer Quickstart: PHP mysqli and MariaDB
By: Rob Hedgpeth
#php #mariadb
This is a great beginner-friendly article on getting started with PHP and MariaDB. There are CRUD operations examples and database connections in the procedural style using MySQLi.
Solid material.
