5 Developer/Programming Newsletters You Should Be Reading
If you are like me, you enjoy your newsletter reading time. Here are 5 programming/developer-related newsletters you should spend some time with...
Not only am I an active writer and blogger (check out my developer blog, Digital Owl's Prose), but I'm first and foremost a reader at heart. Reading is by far my absolute favorite pastime and being a developer, it only makes sense (to me at least) that I would read programming and developer-related material.
While I do read a lot of Fantasy novels, my programming and development growth happens through reading technical content. I find that I learn the most by reading - and writing - about a topic.
In this OpenLampTech publication piece, I'm sharing my 5 favorite Programming/Developer newsletters that I think you should read too.
1. Database Star
This is by far, hands down, one of the best sources on SQL and Database Development on the Internet. Not only does Ben Brumm write informative, in-depth, and useful tutorials and guides, but he also has the Database Star Academy membership site (of which I am a proud member).
Although many of the newsletter and website's articles are related to a specific database implementation per post, several blog posts and emails cover the 4 major SQL brands: Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server, and their differences in relation to the given topic at hand.
Therefore, you can pretty much guarantee you are going to get value out of any of this content no matter which SQL flavor you use.
You can find email subscription information on the site, databasestar.com, in addition to information about the Database Star Academy.
I absolutely recommend both the academy and newsletter.
2. Alex Web Develop
Want to learn PHP the right way from a developer with a deep understanding of the language?
Look no further.
The Alex Web Develop website has courses on PHP Security in addition to detailed guides covering user login authentication and PHP with MySQL tutorials.
Alex frequently publishes an email newsletter that covers an important topic in the PHP landscape which I always read, enjoy, and learn something from.

3. Kinsta Newsletter
Kinsta is a premium managed WordPress hosting company and they publish in-depth and easily digestible WordPress blogs, articles, and email newsletters. I've never failed to learn something from one of the Kinsta blog posts or newsletters I've read.
Not only does their newsletter cover the WordPress ecosystem, but an overall portion of the web development landscape as a whole.
I definitely recommend getting on the Kinsta email list. Learn more on their newsletter landing page.
4. Blogging for Devs
This is probably the newest newsletter on this list for me in regards to how long I've been reading it. However, the Blogging for Devs newsletter - by Monica Lent - really strikes a chord with me due to its focus on blogging as a developer.
The Blogging for Devs newsletter publishes tips and articles on how to grow as a blogging developer in addition to an overarching supporting theme of building a community.
When I first subscribed, the Blogging for Devs newsletter started with a blogging challenge email sequence that I thoroughly enjoyed.
If you are a developer who likes to blog or wants to start blogging, I think you will enjoy this newsletter and community.
Visit the Blogging for Devs landing page for sign-up information.
5. WPShout
The WPShout newsletter has slowed down a lot with its publishing frequency here in the last several months but, they have a massive backlog full of useful content.
These are the WordPress masters. Both of the authors (David and Fred), who operate the site and newsletter, have an in-depth understanding of WordPress development and are excellent writers, able to convey topics in an easily understandable format.
In addition to WordPress-specific content, they publish a great deal of material on PHP as a language.
I feel like even if you are not on board for the WordPress coverage, you will gain some exposure to quality PHP-related content anyways, which is why I originally signed up myself.
Find out more on the WPShout website.
I'm looking forward to your suggestions of other Developer/Programming-related newsletters that you enjoy. Let me know in the comments which ones I should add to my ever-growing list.
