Welcome to this OpenLampTech text-based developer interview.
PHP developer Marian Pop is very active in the Laravel community.
Marian writes a daily blog, and a newsletter, and has a podcast - all covering Laravel.
Needless to say, I am very excited that Marian shared this text-based developer interview with the OpenLampTech readers.
And now without any further ado, on to the interview.
Q: Please introduce yourself and tell us what you currently do for a living.
Hi there. My Name is Marian, a passionate PHP developer. I maintain and write Laravel Magazine. I pour my passion into creating content that keeps the Laravel community informed and inspired.
Q: What PHP framework(s) and/or CMS(s) are you interested in the most or currently using (if any) and why?
Laravel and Statamic.
Q: Do you think it is important for developers to know some SQL and not rely solely on an ORM? Why or why not?
Yes. Knowing what happens behind the scenes is crucial. It will allow you to write more performant queries if you understand the underlying layer.
Q: What is one piece of software that you just cannot live without and why?
I think that would be my terminal. I currently use Kitty.
Q: You type all of your code in which IDE/Text Editor/Software?
Vim. Actually, Neovim which is a Vim-fork focused on extensibility and usability. I am actually workin on a course for PHP Developers interested in getting started with Vim.
Q: How has working as a web developer/designer/professional benefited you other than the obvious paycheck and monetary value?
It helped me be more disciplined and adopt analytical thinking which helped me overcome stressful situations or come up with reasonable solutions.
Q: Do you have a book, newsletter, blog, podcast, or other resource you would recommend to other developers?
I run a newsletter called “The Laravel Magazine Newsletter”. I think this can prove beneficial because it gets you up to date with what happens in the Laravel world as well as interesting posts from the community.
I also run “The Laravel Magazine Podcast” where I interview a different Laravel developer in each episode. I was not very active with the podcast but I plan to get back on track really soon.
And for almost daily articles see “Laravel Magazine”
Q: What hobbies or activities do you do for fun?
My only hobby is off-roading. I love 4WD vehicles and nature.
Q: Where can readers go to learn more about you and any projects you may have going?
You can follow me on Twitter (@mvpopuk) where I share my thoughts on various Laravel-related topics as well as LaravelMagazine.com where I write more in-depth articles about Laravel.
Q: Anything else you'd like to add or share with the OpenLampTech readers?
I think we covered most of the things that I would say but as a closing note, keep reading OpenLampTech 🙂
