The DNS course for developers
Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you want to gain mastery over DNS.
It assumes you have a basic understanding of how the internet works, but you don't need to be an expert. This course assumes no prior networking experience and involves no programming.
If you've worked on DNS full-time for over a year, this course is probably not for you. Otherwise, you'll learn a lot! If you invest in your knowledge today, you'll benefit for the rest of your career.
All commentary is by me unless otherwise quoted.
Here is a quick overview of a new Laravel Package, Eloquent Power Joins. While I don't necessarily use (or know) Laravel that much, I know it is a very powerful framework with a massive user base. One of the things I admire about the entire Laravel ecosystem and community is the amount of 3rd party libraries and packages that enhance the framework. For good or bad there is everything and the kitchen sink available. [Mastering Laravel]
PHP continues to evolve as a programming language and ecosystem. While frameworks are definitely a viable option - especially for more robust applications and projects - a lot can be done with good ole plain PHP. This article demonstrates coding a router from scratch using modern PHP features and functionality such as the match()
function. [Medium]
MariaDB’s Bad Week: Layoffs and an End to Azure Support (October 13th, 2023)
Unfortunately, things seem to keep looking gloomy and doom for MariaDB. It appears the company is laying off 28% of its employees according to this article, along with redirected efforts on only its staple product, MariaDB Enterprise Server.
More information quoted directly from the source:
"As part of the Plan, the company will focus its attention on its core MariaDB Enterprise Server database product. Products not related to the core MariaDB Enterprise Server business, including SkySQL and Xpand, will no longer be sold and the company has implemented a plan to help existing customers migrate off these products."

I'm an old established Linux nerd to the core. Although my personal laptop nowadays is a MacBook M2 Air (I've created several wallpapers for this specific laptop), I used to keep a couple of old Beater laptops around with different Linux distros installed on them. I did the Emacs thing for a while but always kept coming back to Vim. Vim has a steep learning curve but once you're used to it, there is no going back. [techtarget.com]
Dealing with NULL Values in SQL: My 10 Strategies
No matter what, you cannot get around the NULL
value (or marker) in SQL. NULL
is there for a reason - to mark the absence of data. It can, in fact, be very handy if you know how to filter rows based on NULL
. Use IS NULL
and IS NOT NULL
in your WHERE
clause and be mindful that NULL
can wreck aggregate queries too. You'll be just fine. [Medium]
OpenLampTech newsletter developer interview participant Asfia Aiman shares important concepts in this article. Managing the MySQL database is often a task not handled by many developers. Especially in those environments with dedicated DBAs. Nevertheless, database management cannot be overlooked and in those cases where there is not a dedicated DBA, this article is a good starting resource for the developer. [Medium]
