And now, a message from this week’s sponsor. Thank you, Depot for sponsoring the OpenLampTech newsletter!
Depot is a remote container build service hosting BuildKit as a service, the same build engine that backs Docker. We can build Docker images up to 20x faster, thanks to fast persistent caching on NVMe SSDs, 16 CPUs, 32GB of memory, and fast native CPUs for Intel and Arm.
Our fine-grained distributed caching backed by Ceph provides perfectly incremental builds that are accessible from CI and local machines. Working with AWS Graviton or M1/M2 Apple Silicon? Our native CPU support for both Intel and Arm means no more time wasted on emulation.
If you’re tired of waiting for slow Docker image builds, check out depot.dev.
OpenLampTech has sponsorship opportunities for your brand, product, or service in the weekly newsletter. As an independent publication, collaboration is very affordable. Does PHP Really Suck? A Reevaluation of PHP's Evolution Over the Years
Depends on who you ask. I don't think PHP sucks at all. Others swear it does. I've got news though; 40-some-odd percent of the internet (or whatever the latest stat is) says PHP doesn't suck. Since it's - you know, the internet - running on PHP and all. Cry, kick, and scream all you want. The fact of the matter is, PHP is getting better and better with each release. [dev.to]
Schema UI Module Simplifies Entity Schema Visualization in Drupal
Although my Drupal knowledge and use are very limited, I know Drupal developers and builders are going to interact with a database at some point. Be it directly, or abstracted away through an ORM or other UI. With the complexity of Drupal database relationships and fields, Schema UI should help visualize and make sense of the mappings and intricacies. [The Drop Times]

The DNS course for developers
Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you want to gain mastery over DNS.
It assumes you have a basic understanding of how the internet works, but you don't need to be an expert. This course assumes no prior networking experience and involves no programming.
If you've worked on DNS full-time for over a year, this course is probably not for you. Otherwise, you'll learn a lot! If you invest in your knowledge today, you'll benefit for the rest of your career.
WooCommerce: How To Become an Advanced Developer?
This is definitely something on my list I hope to achieve someday. I've got a long way to go. This article is dense, coming in at 2700+ words. Remarkably, it is both [en][dis]couraging. WordPress and WooCommerce are both massive, in use, and in PHP code knowledge needed to be an advanced developer. Bookmark this one. WooCommerce mastery is a long road. [Business Bloomer]
ChatGPT wrote code that can make databases leak sensitive information (October 25th, 2023)
Is anyone surprised? I mean honestly, don't you halfway have to know what you're looking at in order to use these AI tools effectively? Especially when it comes to code. I'd never blindly copy and paste any code that an AI wrote (this is a separate rant/tangent - not necessarily the case for this piece). I think someone who knows what they are doing can manipulate these AI tools into doing more harm than good. [New Scientists]
A positive new chapter for MariaDB Server (October 17th, 2023)
With all the gloom hanging over MariaDB in the past months, this article is an uplifting piece to read. I'm not 100% sure what the future is for MariaDB. I've learned from this article that there are differences - yet similar goals - between MariaDB plc and MariaDB Server. I'm keeping an eye on this space. MariaDB is installed on a ton of Linux distros and is used in applications far and wide. Read more recent positive insights here. [mariadb.org]
Cooking Up Convenience - Symfony Flex's Recipes and the Drupal Recipes Initiative
Here is a very well-written, deep-dive piece on Symfony Flex Recipes and their similar yet distant 'kinfolk', Drupal Recipes. Based on my understanding, in Symfony, you can begin a bare-bones application and add functionality and dependencies as needed using Symfony Flex Recipes. Learn more about the author, Reuben Walker of Symfony Station, in this OpenLampTech developer interview. [Symfony Station]
Quoting this passage directly from the original content:
"Over 1,000+ brands including DreamHost, GoDaddy, and numerous agencies partner with Seahawk to offer custom WordPress development, website maintenance & care packages, WordPress site migration, hacked website repair, and other services for their clients."
According to this article, Awesome Motive's (AM) WPBeginner Growth Fund has invested in Seahawk Media. The juggernaut that is AM keeps coming. I'm glad to see this company (AM) doing things for the small WordPress players. [PR Newswire]
