A WordPress ‘Firehose’ Allows AI Companies to Buy Access to a Million Posts a Day
This is wild. If even a smidgen of this is true, it's a shame. But, I mean isn't all of our data sucked up by robots (or the government) anyways? Although the robots.txt file is more of a handshake type of understanding, it probably won't help if companies are just buying up data anyway. As much as I (want to) love WordPress, it's things like these - and honestly, I do not like the writing experience that much these days - that have me looking at other alternatives (Ghost is at the top).
WooCommerce: Edit User Field @ My Account
Customizations are one of the strong points of WooCommerce. Being able to go beyond the cookie-cutter standard by using custom PHP code snippets is something that is (mostly) difficult for other platforms like Shopify (based on my knowledge and experience).
The Business Bloomer website publishes some of the best WooCommerce-specific coding content found online. In this article, we learn how customers are allowed to edit and save custom - or specific - fields on the My Accounts page.

What is open source? Definition, examples, pros and cons
What is open source to you? To me, it's what makes the software world work. Some of the biggest names and projects are open source - Linux, MySQL (AFAIK), and even WordPress.
Here is one of the key takeaways quoted directly from the article that resonates with me about open source:
“The benefits of open source include flexibility, reliability, transparency, cost savings, freedom and neutrality. The disadvantages are security issues, hidden costs, potential lack of support and usability.”

I saw this mentioned on the WooCommerce developer blog recently and wanted to share it with OpenLampTech readers. Although at the time of writing, Additional Checkout Fields is still in beta, I think when it is added in core, it will be useful for developers.
The premise is to use these Additional Checkout Fields in the Checkout form in order to gather additional data about a customer or their order.

How SQL Query Executes? Order Of SQL Query Execution
I know I've shared a lot of articles in OpenLampTech on this topic but I think it is very important. I view SQL as one of those easy languages until it isn't. How you write SQL syntax-wise is not the same as how the SQL executes. FROM
and JOIN
clauses are executed first, then WHERE
with other clauses to follow. This query execution order is very much felt if you were to try and filter in the WHERE
clause by a column alias in the SELECT
list. Hence, it doesn't work.
Using 'query()' in Laravel Eloquent Queries
Laravel developer Ash Allen looks at 2 similar code snippets involving WHERE
clause filtering with the Laravel Eloquent ORM. In comparison, one example uses an (essentially non-existent) where()
method on an object, and the other code snippet makes use of a dedicated query()
method in which the where()
clause method is chained in the call.

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a great rest of your week.
Take care.
