Interesting Tweet I saw the other day in the WordPress space:
Below is the content I am sharing I enjoyed this week:
US Dept. of Transportation Invites Drupal Agencies for Website Rebuild
#php drupal #cms
My thoughts: Even the big government agencies need a dependable web presence. Drupal seems to be the preferred choice for larger corporate websites. Which makes sense. Is your Drupal agency putting in a bid on any of this project work? Looks like some good money to be made. 💸
The Difference Between self::, static::, and parent:: in PHP
#php
My thoughts: Laravel developer and book author Ash Allen, explains these 3 basic - but often confusing - concepts. Admittedly, I needed clarification on their differences, but this article cleared up many of the questions surrounding self::
, static::
, and parent::
for me. Developers of all levels will appreciate this article. Learn more about Ash Allen in this OpenLampTech developer interview.
Common MySQL errors and how to fix them
#mysql #database
My thoughts: MySQL errors are useful but can be cryptic. I log any PDO MySQL errors when using the PDO library and then spend time deciphering the codes. MySQL has 3 values in an error: an error number, an SQLSTATE, and an error message. Learn more about the common MySQL errors.
8 Best WordPress Gutenberg Blocks (And How to Use Them)
#wordpress #cms
My thoughts: I use the Gutenberg editor for every article I write on my developer blog and niche bass fishing website. I'll admit, Gutenberg took some getting used to but I enjoy using it now. Especially once I started using the slash (/
) commands. There are some staple blocks covered here. But the one I definitely need to learn more about and use is the Query Loop Block.
Quick Tip: How To Manage Timezones in PHP
#php
My thoughts: Time zone management in any application that needs them is crucial. Especially with a large portion of the workforce working remotely and across multiple global locations. Learn about the DateTimeZone
and DateTimeZoneImmutable
PHP classes and how to effectively use them in your applications.

Problem of Payment Gateway for your WooCommerce Dropshipping Store Resolved
#wordpress #woocommerce
My thoughts: Payments and taxes are 2 areas where I see a lot of queries and questions asked in the 2 WooCommerce Facebook groups I frequent. I know firsthand that the little I do know about WooCommerce (mostly in the way of small customizations using PHP) has nothing to do with payments and taxes. Both are something I must learn at some point if I ever plan to work with WooCommerce.
Power Up Your MySQL Queries: How ChatGPT Can Help You Retrieve MySQL Data
#mysql #sql #database
My thoughts: I suppose I'm the cynic. I'm just skeptical of AI programs like ChatGPT. For as cool as they are, it seems like when they get stuff wrong, it's just hosed. There is a promise though, as shown in this article where ChatGPT helps with some MySQL queries for specific questions on the database. Just remember to always check the code before blindly copying and pasting as ChatGPT might not be aware of security issues.
