From me to you…
I am currently seeking employment opportunities as a back-end PHP/SQL web developer. I am interested in remote-only roles (preferably United States hours/timezones) and would appreciate your support in sharing with me any positions you feel I should/could look into.
My current day job provides me with a steady (and nice) paycheck but the work is not in alignment (any longer) with my desire, passion, and goal(s) for back-end PHP/SQL web development.
Again, I appreciate any information on these types of roles you can share with me or think of. 🙏

I’ve said in previous blog posts that I enjoy reading requests and requirements from WooCommerce FaceBook groups and trying to implement them on my own as a learning experience and to gain more knowledge of WooCommerce development. In this post, we are going to truncate the long(er) product Description into a clickable ‘Read more’ type of option. Learn with me by reading below.
Below is the content I am sharing I enjoyed this week:
Improve your coding skills with temporal values in MySQL
#mysql #sql #database
My thoughts: Many reporting queries (among other types) use date and/or timestamp filtering on the data for business requirements or rules. Therefore, it is imperative to know the differences in how MySQL stores and displays temporal values in the database. As one example, DATETIME
and TIMESTAMP
have different date ranges of what the other can store. Yet, both temporal types can store the same type of data. Learn more about MySQL temporal types (DATE
, TIME
, DATETIME
, TIMESTAMP
, and YEAR
) in this overview.
Drupal Best Suited for DXPs, Not for Brochure Websites: Jurriaan Roelofs
#drupal #cms
My thoughts: In other words, leave the brochure sites to WordPress lol (just kidding). In this interview with DXPR founder and senior product manager Jurriaan Roelofs, we learn how Roelofs got into Drupal and much more. Roelofs also discusses how open-sourcing the DXPR premium theme - which provides content editors with a better drag-and-drop technology - allowed his SaSS to survive the 'hard times' when others were struggling in the industry. I like and respect Jurriaan's objective:
"You will be able to put your granny (or grandfather, mom, pops, etc.) in front of a computer and let them create a mobile-friendly webpage about their hobby."
Powerful stuff.
15 Secrets of Professional WordPress Developers
#wordpress #cms
My thoughts: I sure am glad the secrets are revealed because I need them.🤣
Many of these are table stakes. But, some should be and aren't. At least for me. So I've got to tighten up. Mainly on version control and contributing more to WordPress (where I can - doesn't the OpenLampTech newsletter count?). I definitely have the always learning mark checked off. In this game, you will never know it all and there is always something to learn (or unlearn as I like to think of it).
WooCommerce: Products Attributes in a Shortcode
#wordpress #woocommerce #php
My thoughts: I'm biting at the bit to try this on a test page on a development site to use for an article on my developer blog. I'm shouting to the rooftop if you're learning WooCommerce development or need a solid resource; the Business Bloomer website is the place to be. Learn how to use shortcodes to display specific products' attributes in another location besides the WooCommerce Single Product page. WordPress shortcodes are so useful and powerful and this article shows one way to make good use of them in WooCommerce.

MariaDB 11.0 Brings a New Optimizer Cost Model and More
#mariadb #sql # database
My thoughts: 10 years after its last release, MariaDB has a new version (11). One of the additions in this release is a new optimizer cost model, which better predicts the query execution plan cost(s). At one time, MariaDB was a drop-in replacement for MySQL. However, nowadays MariaDB is its own powerful SQL database with its own features. Many Linux and LAMP stack installs include MariaDB out of the box. A new optimizer with a better planner; definitely a plus for a new release version. Get used to seeing MariaDB. I think it as a database is improving more and more with each feature.
Hands-On With Drupal 10: Crafting Content With CKEditor 5
#drupal #cms
My thoughts: I've not personally used the CKEditor 5, but it sure looks awesome. CKEditor 5 has premium components for real-time collaboration, commenting, and much more. However, I think the standard set of features is quite suitable for anyone creating content for their Drupal site. It's definitely a mind shift for me coming from mostly using Gutenberg in WordPress, to the WYSIWYG CKEditor 5 content-editing side used in Drupal. I definitely need to check it out someday.
InstaWP Review: Create WordPress Testing Sites in One Click
#wordpress #cms
My thoughts: I've written about how WPShout was is one of my favorite 5 WordPress resources but said there hadn't been any activity with their content in a long while. Seems like there is a spark still there (woot woot) with this fresh article. For local WordPress development, I've dabbled with DevKinsta but currently use Local (which is awesome). However, I haven't tried InstaWP. InstaWP looks like another solid option in the local development WordPress space and there is useful information about it in this article with 5 detailed subsections.
