From me to you…
I am currently seeking employment opportunities as a back-end PHP/SQL web developer. I am interested in remote-only roles (preferably United States hours/timezones) and would appreciate your support in sharing with me any positions you feel I should/could look into.
My current day job provides me with a steady (and nice) paycheck but the work is not in alignment (any longer) with my desire, passion, and goal(s) for back-end PHP/SQL web development.
Again, I appreciate any information on these types of roles you can share with me or think of. 🙏

Below is the content I am sharing I enjoyed this week:
How to Modify HTML in a PHP WordPress Plugin Using The New Tag Processor API
#php #wordpress #cms
My thoughts: This is new ground (and thinking) for me as I am already used to editing HTML, PHP, and a mix of the two. I was confused upon first encountering and reading this article. But now, as I understand it, this is more about mass 'search and replace' type of functionality. I can see where using the API is way better than some cryptic regular expression(s) (which no one seems to remember or understand lol).
5 Lessons I Learned from Building My Own Laravel Package
#php #laravel
My thoughts: In order to advance as a Laravel web developer, and learn more about the package ecosystem, Ash Allen took some free time to learn the ropes of this process. In this article, Ash shares 5 key lessons learned for others interested in creating Laravel packages. Ash Allen is a prominent developer and content creator in the Laravel community and you can learn more about him in this OpenLampTech developer interview.
What if WordPress moved on from blogging?
#wordpress #cms
My thoughts: WordPress started out as a blogging platform. But, as covered in this article, has evolved into a whole lot more. I have to wonder just how many WordPress sites are used for something other than primarily a blog. Sure, you need blog content to get traffic on your site, hopefully converting those 'searchers' into customers. This article explores similar concepts and more. The fact of the matter is, WordPress is massive. And, is much more than just a blogging platform now.
Debugging functions
#php
My thoughts: I'd be one lost goose without the <pre>
tags, var_dump()
, and print_r()
when programming in PHP. I mean, we have to see what the variable value is, right? The author wrote a batch of debugging helper functions shown in this article. What a great idea. One day I'll be smart enough to do the same. Kindly enough, the author shares these via Github. Y'all better grab them too.
Significance of using Invisible Primary key (GIPK) with MySQL 8.0
#sql #mysql
My thoughts: I can't recall creating a MySQL table without a Primary Key before. But, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. And, perhaps for good reason too (or at the time of schema design at least). MySQL v 8.0.30 introduced Generated Invisible Primary Keys (GIPK). Just what is a GIPK?
"It is an invisible primary key for a table that is created without a primary key column."
Learn more about GIPK in this high-level overview.

How to manage users and roles in WordPress
#wordpress #cms
My thoughts: If you were ever confused about or didn't know the differences between user roles and their permissions in WordPress, look no more. This article is for you. Each user role and permission level is covered in detail with its own dedicated section. Clear, concise, and understandable. Also, there are some suggestions for best practices when allowing users to register on your site.
Sorted Tables for Faster Range-Scans
#sql #mysql #postgresql
My thoughts: Tobias Petry from the SQL For Devs website has the knowledge and gift of breaking down hardcore database concepts for developers. We as developers know (or should) that sorting order is critical if we need database query results in a specific order. You can take advantage of read-heavy database queries with a defined stored sorting order. Learn how in this detailed article with workarounds for INSERT
operations, which may be slower in performance due in part to the defined stored sorting.
