This Week’s Picks
✔️ How to search multiple models easily with Laravel Eloquent without using packages
#php #laravel #mysql
This post covers UNION
queries with Laravel's Eloquent ORM. I'm not 100% sure if the framework I use (CodeIgniter 4) has a dedicated UNION
method but this option in Laravel seems way cool to me. UNION
is one of the SET operators and is used to stack SELECT
query results one on top of the other.
✔️ CodeIgniter 4 Tutorials for Beginners
#php #codeigniter
I mostly share written content in the OpenLampTech newsletter. But, I have to share this YouTube video playlist. This is a massive 50+ video playlist covering CodeIgniter 4 development for beginners. I've learned so much from these videos and continue to do so to this day. If you want to learn CodeIgniter 4 and gain a good understanding of the framework, this is a great place to start.
✔️ Best WordPress Books To Learn Platform
#wordpress
I'm familiar with a couple of books on this list and since I like book roundups so much, I thought to share this one about WordPress books here. Let me know which of these (if any) are your favorites.
✔️ MySQL 101: Basic MySQL Server Triage
#mysql
The Percona blog has top-notch content about open-source databases and we can learn a lot by reading any one the posts there written by the experts. This post has several tips and suggestions for collecting diagnostic information on a downed server. I'm definitely keeping this one bookmarked.🔖
✔️ EXPLAINing the Different EXPLAINS In MySQL
#mysql
The MySQL EXPLAIN
command can be used on several different types of queries to know and understand just how the server is executing that statement. It should have been named, EXPLAIN TO ME PLEASE, in my opinion, because much of the output is difficult to decipher. This post covers available alternative output formats you can use with the EXPLAIN
command.
✔️ Run Your WordPress Business Like a Pro with WPMU DEV
#wordpress
I am a WordPress blogger and user. I feel that if I put in the work, I can learn WordPress development and someday join the freelancer pool in this ecosystem. With my affinity for PHP and MySQL, I already have a pretty good head-start at least in the area of 2 of the CMS’s core languages.
All that said, I read this post (and watched a similar YouTube video) about a phenomenal piece of software that I think of as a "WordPress Professional's Delight".
Manage multiple sites, apply updates to plugins (on multiple sites), offer reseller hosting, bill your clients, set up sites with pre-made templates, etc. It's all there.
I am talking about WPMU DEV's The Hub (I highly recommend subscribing to their newsletter, The WHIP, also). It looks like one incredible piece of software and makes me want to really explore the WordPress Professional freelance route.
✔️ ETL in MySQL – How to automatically load data into a table every day
#mysql
I am soon-to-be-tasked with figuring out how to upload a large amount of CSV data into several MySQL tables in a processing workflow. Admittedly, I have no idea how to do it (yet). However, I found this fantastic article that has me optimistic and looks to at least put me on the starter path.
✔️ It doesn’t belong in the database — WordPress + ACF
#mysql #php #wordpress
I've not used the ACF plugin for any project work (yet) but I'm aware that it is a popular WordPress plugin. This post looks at registering the custom fields programmatically in PHP.
