Placement of NULL values for ORDER BY with nullable columns
NULL
can be that tricky wildcard in SQL. Filtering for NULL
in the WHERE
clause is just one place to pay attention when it comes to NULL
. Sorting with them involved in the ORDER BY
clause is another thing entirely. [SQL For Devs]
Using ORM in PHP without a framework
Most any framework worth its salt is going to have an ORM. I have absolutely nothing against an ORM. But. I don't think developers should solely rely on or be dependent on them. PHP PDO from scratch is an option.
Quoted from the fantastic article's author:
"In general, ORM allows abstracting access to the database simplifying it." [Medium]
As quoted from this content piece:
"The Single Responsibility Principle dictates that a class should have only one reason to change. In simpler terms, each class should have a single responsibility or task that it is responsible for."
Asfia Aiman recently participated in a text-based developer interview here in the OpenLampTech publication. Her knowledge is on full display in this article. [Medium]
WooCommerce Product Tabs is now part of the Barn2 family
I've not personally used any plugins from the Barn2 stable, but I've listened to some podcasts with their founders and they seem to be a solid brand. Good to hear of them expanding their suite of plugins with this addition. [Barn2 Plugins]
How to Read WordPress Block Content Programmatically
I have enough of a challenge with continuing to grow as a PHP developer. And, jQuery is as far as my JavaScript skills go. So I'm dead certain I'm not near enough ready to be getting into the world of WordPress block development. But, Igor Benić sure can show us a thing or 2 about WordPress block development. PHP isn’t that bad, so why the hate?
I know personally, I tried many programming languages before I landed on - and stuck with - PHP. Python, Ruby, Java, C++, for whatever reason just didn't stick with me. Those languages are awesome in their own right. But, yea, PHP gets a bad rap. That's fine, the more for all of us PHP devs. Keep making noise, haters. We will keep making money with PHP. [Medium]
