OpenLampTech continues to publish awesome content in the form of text-based developer interviews. These pieces are my personal favorite and my goal is to share more of them as part of the main staple in the OpenLampTech newsletter.
Here is yet another fantastic developer interview.

The DNS course for developers
Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you want to gain mastery over DNS.
It assumes you have a basic understanding of how the internet works, but you don't need to be an expert. This course assumes no prior networking experience and involves no programming.
If you've worked on DNS full-time for over a year, this course is probably not for you. Otherwise, you'll learn a lot! If you invest in your knowledge today, you'll benefit for the rest of your career.
All commentary is by me unless otherwise quoted.
PHP Code Structuring: Building Castles, Not Card Houses
One of the key (and best) design patterns IMO is the Model View Controller (MVC). MVC helps logically structure your application code. Before I learned of - and how to use the MVC design pattern - my code was a spaghetti mess. Learn more about MVC and other design and structuring best practices here. [Medium]
Here is a very well-written article on all of the pieces of PHP. Covering the differences between compiled and interpreted languages - of which PHP is the latter. Summaries are provided for each of the phases of running PHP; Tokenize, Parse, Compile, and Execute. I enjoyed reading and learned much from this piece. [Medium]
MariaDB receives NYSE continued listing standards notice (September 22nd, 2023)
I just don't think our beloved MariaDB is going to make it on the public market. This is the 2nd such type of notice that I'm aware of in the last several months. I'm not sure why MariaDB as an entity is struggling so much. Perhaps it is just the nature of open source. I won't pretend for one second to know the ins and outs of the stock market. But, it does appear the public market could be kinder to MariaDB. [Seeking Alpha]

Avoid the AOP: Array-Oriented Programming
As helpful as PHP (associative) arrays are, they can have some drawbacks in certain situations. While prevalent across many codebases, larger teams and memory-constrained applications should be mindful of the cons of using arrays all over a project. Getting to Know Woo: Exploring Server-Side Extensibility with Hooks
I think one of the best things about programming in WordPress are the hooks. In my small amount of WordPress-related programming time - mostly with WooCommerce - I've come to appreciate just how powerful hooks are. Here is a nice list with links for action and filter hooks in the WooCommerce Cart and Checkout blocks. [Woo Developer Hub]
Microsoft is Sunsetting its Azure Database for MariaDB Service in 2025
At this point, both MariaDB and MySQL are completely different database software. Microsoft is dropping its MariaDB offering to focus on Azure Database for MySQL – Flexible Server. Customers operating on the Azure Database for MariaDB have until September 2025 to migrate. [Petri]
